For as long as I can remember, the beach has been my most favorite place to be. My dad worked six days a week as a car salesman to provide for our family of five, so going on vacation was certainly not something we got to do often, but when we did, it almost always involved going to the beach.
Spending time with the HJL Family at Colony Surf was akin to taking a trip back to that magical beach time of my childhood past. Their joy and excitement as they searched for and gathered up hermit crabs and fish eggs flooded me with my own happy memories of looking for and collecting sharks teeth and seashells. When HL told me about how she had been vacationing in the same spot at Colony Surf since she was a little girl, I swear I literally felt my heart melt. “We didn’t have a lot of money, but my grandfather had a small piece of land and access to this little private beach, so that is what we did for family vacation every year. … I loved it, and I wanted to share that with my own family, so Lilly and Zach have grown up playing on the same old boat ramp as I did when I was a kid,” she said. Sadly, HJ told me that her grandmother passed not too long ago and her grandfather is considering selling the property, so this could be the last year they are able to make memories in the place they have grown to know as their summer home away from home. “It’s such a big part of our lives, and I wanted our family pictures to be here, so we would always have this memory to look back upon even if it’s our last.”
